Tokenized Deposits Meet RTP And CHIPS
The Clearing House operates some of the core plumbing of the U.S. financial system.
Its networks clear and settle more than $2 trillion per day across wire transfers, ACH, checks and real-time payments.
The On-Chain Money Initiative is intended to add tokenized deposits to that environment.
Quant’s role will be to coordinate how those tokenized deposits move between participating financial institutions while connecting the network to existing fiat rails including RTP and CHIPS.
That creates a different model from a public stablecoin.
A tokenized deposit remains a deposit liability of the bank that issued it.
The blockchain component changes how that claim can be recorded, programmed and transferred.
The underlying banking relationship remains.
Programmable Bank Money Is Moving Closer To Production
The initiative was first announced in June.
The selection of Quant moves it from a broad banking project toward a specific technology architecture.
The Clearing House says the system could support corporate treasury, liquidity management, cross-border payments and digital-asset settlement.
Payments could also be programmed to execute automatically once agreed conditions are met.
Participating institutions are expected to gain access in the first half of 2027.
That means this is infrastructure under development, not a live consumer payment network today.
Still, the scale of the organization behind it matters.
Blockchain experiments inside individual banks are nothing new.
A shared tokenized-deposit network attached to payment rails already used across the U.S. banking system is a different proposition.
If the project works, banks would not need to choose between existing payment infrastructure and programmable onchain money.
The two systems could increasingly become part of the same stack.
