International payment processing company MoneyBookers – also known as Skrill – has set speculation alight among bitcoin enthusiasts with its latest tweet. Yesterday morning, the company posted the following tweet from its corporate account:

Coming just hours after Western Union fell foul of the bitcoin community, the tweet suggests we could soon see one of the leading global payment processing companies adopt bitcoin as a viable means of transaction. Such a large-scale commercial affirmation of bitcoin’s viability would no doubt reinforce the credibility of the cryptocurrency space as a whole. Skrill is currently used by more than 30 million customers and more than 135,000 merchants worldwide. The company’s payment network provides 100 payment options, with 40 currencies covering 200 countries and territories – a network into which (in our opinion at least) bitcoin would fit nicely.
There have been plenty of responses to the tweet, the vast majority saluting Skrill’s “step in the right direction”. Below is a selection of these responses:

It’s great to see some of the leaders in digital payment processing recognize that the growth of bitcoin is now becoming an inevitability, and adapting to suit. From the looks of some of the responses, it’s not just me that thinks this way.
