Now that Ross Ulbricht has been found guilty on all counts, many find themselves wondering… What’s next?
When the verdict was read and Ulbricht left the courthouse, several witnesses claim that his overall demeanor actually expressed threads of joy. He was described as being relatively upbeat, leaving alongside US Marshals waving to friends and family members as many onlookers sobbed about the outcome of the trial. Ross Ulbricht’s mother Lyn Ulbricht says that she expects her son to appeal the verdict… Is that why he looked so happy? Does he having something planned that he’s sure will result in his freedom or some other positive outcome?
Perhaps the biggest thing going for Ulbricht right now is the fact that many still believe the trial was not conducted fairly, and that the entire investigation was an infringement on his Fourth Amendment rights and Internet freedom as a whole. Some even took to creating a website calling for the alleged drug kingpin’s freedom.
In the midst of all this hullabaloo Ulbricht has been found guilty, and many sources are claiming that he now faces a life sentence. That’s right… The rest of his life behind bars… But how likely is it that he’ll receive such a sentence
Several of the drug charges that Ulbricht has been convicted of only carry sentences of about 10-20 years in prison, but quite easily the largest pieces of “evidence” (I use that word lightly, as the charges were never officially pressed) against him were the transcripts suggesting possible murder-for-hire schemes, which Ulbricht allegedly pursued almost half-a-dozen times. However, murder-for-hire charges have not been filed against Ulbricht and were not actually introduced in court. Furthermore, it is believed that no murders ever took place and none of the supposed victims have been found, so most of those stories have been tossed at this point.
So what do you all think the outcome will be? What do you predict to be Ulbricht’s likely sentence? 20 years? 30 years? Life? Or do you think he’ll file an appeal and win? Post your comments below.
