Dutch payment service provider Mollie announced on Thursday that they have introduced bitcoin payments for both websites and apps utilizing their services.
Merchants who do their business online (in partnership with Mollie) can now accept the emerging digital currency with relative ease, without the need for anything extra. Better yet, they can start accepting bitcoin immediately.
These merchants (over 10,000) need not be familiar with the technicalities behind bitcoin because Mollie will simply do the work on their behalf. When a user pays with bitcoin, it will be converted into euros at a fixed rate (based on the time of payment) and credited to the merchant’s account within two business days.
“We believe in the future of crypto-currencies as their DNA matches that of online commerce; real time, low transaction costs and cross border,” said Gaston Aussems, CEO at Mollie. “For Bitcoin payments to become commonplace there should be a two-sided market: enough customers able to pay with Bitcoins and sufficient points of sale accepting them.”
He continues:
“We are convinced that, by making it simple and risk-free for online merchants to accept Bitcoins, we are providing a major contribution to the mass adoption and use of Bitcoins.”
On Thursday afternoon, we learned that Atlanta-based BitPay was going a similar route by forming a partnership to integrate bitcoin acceptance into Toshiba’s VisualTouch point-of-sale system.
Mollie was established in 2004, and has quickly become one of the leading payment service providers in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. The company is a licensed payment institution and is regulated by the Dutch Central Bank.
